When Bad Things Happen To Good Shows
It's like that old joke, two women are at dinner at a restaurant and one says to the other, "This food is terrible!" The other woman wrinkles her nose and replies, "I know! And the portions are so small!"
Unfortunately, in the case of season six of Gossip Girl, the episodes are bad and few. Ten episodes could have been sufficient to wrap everything up quite nicely. Everything, for the most part, is wrapped up, but NOT nicely.
***Here There Be Spoilers***
I am a Chuck and Blair fan, have been all the way from the first season. Yes, they've done heinous things to each other. (that whole bit about Chuck setting up Blair to prostitute herself for his hotel in the third season was hard to stomach) Even at their worst, though, these two are compelling. They set the screen on fire when they're together. This season finds them involved in a pact to succeed in their respective business fields...Chuck by ousting his father from Bass Industries...
Cartoonish and nonsensical, but nonetheless a satisfying end to Gossip Girl
I am a Gossip Girl fanatic. I faithfully watched every episode and loved every moment of it (well almost every moment.)I admit the show had lost its spark somewhere in the midst of Season 4 when for some reason the writers decided to take away college and career prospects for these VERY young, wealthy and ambitious people and turn them into a cycle of never ending backstabbing & bed hopping cycle without any real purpose or character development. It became impossible to root for anyone or any couple at that point.
With that said, Season 6 had its questionable and downright hilarious moments such as never ending Chuck Bass family drama and Serena & Dan attempts to salvage the disaster that was their friendship and romantic relationship. But of course, it had its winning moments such as anything involving its main stars Chuck and Blair, zingers by Georgina and return of the one and only Uncle Jack.
Season 6 is laughable in parts, but its conclusion and five year...
Better than the last 3 Seasons.
It was sad seeing this series end. I was such a fan of the first 2 seasons but I'm glad the ending was satisfying. For anyone who's watched GG and is familiar with the show knows how melodramatic it can be. The last 5 seasons were filled with some mind blowing scenarios that were a bit exaggerated that sometimes especially in season 5 just took the flavor and sophistication out of the show. I'm glad this season came around and did it the right way this time. The writers have finally redeemed themselves of the horrid things they were threwing at us last season. Not saying that this season is the best so far but it comes close, very close the only reason I give it 4 stars out of 5 is for these following minor problems that I had with the show.
[MAJOR SPOILER/ DO NOT READ UNLESS YOU'VE WATCHED THE SHOW]
-Problem #1: The end of Bart Bass. These people spent almost the entire season the first 9 episodes to take Bart down who is very clearly the biggest, most feared...
