Smash: Season One (DVD + UltraViolet)

Smash is AWESOME (check here the list of episodes), but where's the BLU-RAY???
If you're here, you probably know that Smash is one of the best shows to appear on television in the last 20 years. Thank you, Theresa Rebeck, for creating it!

Great music, great characters (Derek is my favorite), everybody who loves New York and especially Broadway will have a BLAST watching every single episode. What could you expect, it also has Steven Spielberg as one of its executive producers!

I'm sure that thousands and thousands of americans and foreigners who love NYC will feel the same way. Am I right?

My god... and the original music of this show !?

I don't have words to describe how incredible and perfect they are, really, REALLY creative, songs AND lyrics, you have to watch Smash and listen to them yourself, if you still didn't do that!
(Don't waste any time, btw, you're gonna fall in love with the original music!)

The original songs were written by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, these guys deserve no less than...

Finally Glee with a Script and Great Acting
Best show I have seen in years. I did not expect to like it and by about 15 minutes into the first episode I was hooked. The songs are incredible, the storyline very engaging and a tremendous cast.

Are You Fascinated by Musicals/Theater?
If you love the world of musical theater, you may enjoy this smashing romp aptly titled SMASH. With a stellar cast including Deborah Messing, Katherine McPhee and Anjelica Huston with Spielberg producing it, there's talent invested in it.

The talent is trying to produce a Broadway Musical based on the iconic Marilyn Monroe. However, there are the usual challenges: inconvenient romances, slimy director, cast rivalry, insufficient financial backing, script rewriting etc. It is great fun to observe the creative process and the chaos surrounding it. Will they produce a smash hit? You want to keep watching to see if it will come together.

Psych: The Complete Fourth Season

Fake Psychic, Real Good Television
Psych is by far my favorite show, so forgive me if I'm a little biased. This season has been great in terms of episode quality (granted some plots are weaker than others, such as the episode with John Cena, but that's to be expected). The acting by the main cast is nothing short of wonderful, and the writing, although often silly, is never stupid. The silliness give Psych much of its charm without making it annoying to watch. As far as over-arching stories go, season 4 has been great for character development, with many characters breaking new ground. We get more character back stories, especially for Juliet, which is rewarding for devoted fans.
As far as the DVD itself goes, although it has not been released, if it is the same as the last three seasons, there should be no complaint. The packaging is solid and never annoying (I actually think it's pretty cool), the commentaries on selected episodes are always very funny and enjoyable, as are the podcast and video...

Psych!
What can I say about such a series, I could call it funny, witty, and wonderful. But using these words almost underminds how great a show Psych is. It has such interesting, funny plotlines that may keep you on the edge of your seat while laughing. The show follows fake-psychic detective Shawn Spencer has he solves cases for the police department as well as others. But he can't do this alone. He gets help from his reluctant partner Gus, Junior Detective Juliet O'Hara, his dad Henry, extremely doubting detective Carlton Lassiter, and police chief Karen Vick. Season 4, itself, starts out with a great opener (Episode 4.1 Expedition British Columbia) in which Gus and Shawn take a trip to Canada for some fun, but Shawn can't help but to solve another crime using his fake psychic and real detective skills. And then there are more great episodes. But one of my personal favorites is episode 4.7 High Top Fade Out, where we learn a little more about Gus. We learn that he was in a college...

Still the greatest thing on TV.
Psych is like the quirky child in your family of TV shows, and with Season 4, this quirky child is gaining some maturity. The character driven plots seem to be running deeper, and we see different sides to our favorite Santa Barbara residents. There's a lot of good relationships, some movie-esque episodes, still no-need for a laugh track, more action, and another season finale that doesn't disappoint.

Can't wait to add this set to the collection. :)

Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Series

Confused about What to Get? Here Are Some Answers
I bought all of the seasons separately as they first came out, and I highly recommend watching the entire television series through to the end. The five stars are for the series, NOT for the atrocious marketing.

While looking for the last piece of the series (see the end of the review), I came across some great deals (in terms of price), but was dismayed to see just how confusing things have become on Amazon. This review below is meant to help you wade through the mess in the marketplace, purchase the series, and enjoy it. I originally posted it for the combined Seasons 4.0 and 4.5 set, but someone kindly suggested I post it elsewhere as well. I hope you find it helpful.

DVD CONFUSION
-------------------------------------------------------
The show is incredible. However, the whole DVD thing has been a disaster. They released it in the worst way possible (see below), Amazon compounded the problem by lumping together reviews for DIFFERENT PRODUCTS, and...

Great series- Silver box set
First of all for those who haven't noticed the reviews that are here are for two different box sets. One set is a large silver box and the other is black and comes with a collectible cylon. This review is for the silver box set. This box set includes all of the episodes from the series and also the miniseries. It also contains Razor and The plan. The Plan is sometimes missed because it is in the same case as disk 4 of season 4. On the outside of the case there is no mention of it at all but it is there. I didn't even know it was there until I opened the case to watch disk 4. Each disk also has lots of deleted scenes, commentary, and other special behind the scenes features. This is a great series and box set.

Definitive Collection Buy it
I have the "newer" box set (you know, the one in the picture), and as others have pointed out the packaging is no longer a concern. So now that that's out of the way, how does the set actually hold up? Very well actually, and at times admirably.

BSG was never a bright and shiny show. Visually speaking it's cinematography was every bit as dark as many of the themes the show explored. This works to great effect in keeping with the tone of the narrative itself. The only problem, if you consider it such, is that this style of photography doesn't necessarily lend itself to high defnition video. Don't get the wrong idea, BSG looks gorgeous on Blu, and at this point I refuse to watch it on any other format. Just keep in mind that the artistic goals of the shows creators was not to present the most clear and crisp visual presentation available, and you'll be happy.

What these vagaries mean in real world terms is that video quality will range from jaw...

Community: The Complete Third Season

This Show STILL Delivers!
Everything about the first two seasons was top notch. The acting, writing, and directing just continued to get better and better as the story unfolded. It's safe to say that this is STILL the case with the third season of this critically acclaimed comedy!

The writers are taking the excellence of this show very seriously, and it has already paid off in spades for fans. This season, they've truly gone all in, and its easy to see why: This is re-writing all the rules about what a TV comedy can accomplish within 22 minutes. It's smart, hilarious, edgy (and even a little weird - but in a good way). I hope that by the end of this season it'll no longer be the most underrated comedy on TV today, and will begin to gain the popularity that it's deserved for the past three seasons.

PLEASE, PLEASE DON'T CANCEL THIS SHOW, NBC!!!
This is the funniest show on TV. The only others that come close are "Parks and Rec." and "30 Rock." Please, NBC, do not cancel this awesome show. I will buy the DVD sets to support it. Thanks.

This is the secret love child of Arrested Development and Friends. Best show on tv now
This show is seriously one of the best shows on tv now. It is the comedic successor of arrested development; it contains all the wit, play on words, intelligent and observational humour that arrested development had. Unfortunantly because this show doesn't have a laugh track and requires some thought to enjoy it isn't getting the attention it deserves.

It takes numerous views to get most of the jokes and after watching the first two seasons at least 4-5 times I still catch things I've missed. It's hilarious, the acting is superb, the attention to detail is astounding, and the writing is at another level. Preorder this and I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

Here's hoping for 6 seasons and a movie.

Suits: Season One (DVD + Digital Copy + UltraViolet)

Elevating The Formula With Smarts, Sophistication, And Uncommon Wit
The courtroom drama has become such a staple of American television, it is impossible to imagine a program with a completely unique approach to the legal genre. Yet, you always hope a show can tweak the formula and give you something you haven't seen a hundred times previously. While USA Network's "Suits" certainly isn't revolutionary television in its casework, it has brought something quite unexpected to the defense table. Spending more time in the boardroom than in the courthouse, this remarkably engaging show has brought a sense of smarts and sophistication to the proceedings--and trust me, I haven't used the word sophistication to describe a basic cable TV show in some time. A lot of elements work just fine here, but there are two specific things that elevate this show to the next level. First, the dialogue is snappy, genuinely funny and filled with clever wordplay. Second, the two leads (Gabriel Macht and Patrick J. Adams) have uncommonly good timing in serving up that dialogue...

Suits is brilliantly entertaining
The script, acting, and quality are all flawless, as far as television goes. If you're looking to be highly entertained, then look no further. The subtle humor, creative plot, and enjoyable dialogue entices the viewer more with each passing moment.

If you're into legal shows that include all aspects of human nature, including compassion, then Suits is for you.

Hopefully this show continues to have the opportunity to thrive; it has definitely drawn me in and I won't miss a second of it.

An Intelligent, Sparkling New Television Series
SUITS is smart, sassy, clever, sophisticated, timely and immensely entertaining! The new series debuted with a full 60 minute story that establishes the characters very solidly, opens pathways for many story lines, and boasts an exceptional cast of fine actors. Here is hoping it makes it as an ongoing series, especially since it is not yet another crime drama! Not that Criminal Mains, The Mentalist, Without A Trace will lose their place among the best show on television, but with all the spinoffs on the crime shows, the available choices have been dwindling lately.

SUITS is a lawyer show. Set in New York (captured, by the way, in beautiful cinematic vistas) it focuses on a very successful law firm, managed by Jessica Pearson (Gina Torres) who balances the talents of her two top lawyers, the smarmy Louis Litt (Rick Hoffman) who is a control freak, and the very brilliant but egotistical Harvey Spector (Gabriel Macht). There is a particularly appealing and very bright...
